Suruchi and Kamaljeet shoot to gold with Asian and Games record at Aichi-Nagoya

Suruchi and Kamaljeet delivered India its first shooting gold of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning the mixed team 10m air pistol event in record-breaking fashion. The pair set a new Asian and Games record, capping a remarkable turnaround after both shooters had endured disappointment in their respective individual events earlier in the competition.

Suruchi, reflecting on the emotional journey, said she had been deeply affected by her individual performance and had spent considerable time trying to understand where things had gone wrong. The gold medal, she suggested, felt all the more meaningful given the anguish that had preceded it.

India's shooters were not alone in adding to the nation's medal haul. The men's 50m three-position rifle team of Tomar, Niraj and Rudrankksh claimed a silver medal, further boosting India's standing on the shooting range.

The successes on the shooting range came alongside a continued surge in athletics. Long-distance runner Gulveer claimed silver in the men's 10,000 metres, adding to the bronze won a day earlier by Seema Kumari in the women's 10,000 metres, underlining the growing depth of Indian sport at the continental Games.
