Xi and Trump discuss AI and Taiwan during White House state visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held talks on artificial intelligence and Taiwan at the White House on Thursday during a state visit marked as much by ceremony as by diplomacy.
On the question of AI, Xi argued that the two countries should complement rather than confront each other, saying the right course was for nations to draw on each other's strengths rather than guard against one another. He also expressed support for continued dialogue on the issue.
The visit was framed by considerable pageantry throughout, with the two leaders and their wives — Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan — scheduled to conclude the trip with a tour of the National Archives, where America's founding documents including the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are held. The visit began with morning tea in the White House Red Room.
