Rain-related death toll in Andhra Pradesh climbs to nine
Flooding, electrocution and a road accident have claimed multiple lives across the state as heavy monsoon rains continue to cause havoc.
The death toll from rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh has risen to nine, as the state continues to bear the full force of the monsoon season. Among the latest victims was a 60-year-old man who was washed away by a swelling stream in Eluru district, while two siblings lost their lives to electrocution in West Godavari district.
A further fatality occurred when a lorry carrying fish overturned, killing one person and leaving nine others injured. The string of tragedies has compounded the misery of residents already struggling with widespread flooding and disruption across the state.
Farmers in Vizianagaram district have been among the hardest hit, with incessant rainfall causing severe damage to agricultural land and livelihoods.
Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for several districts, valid through 28 September. Authorities have urged pilgrims, tourists and commuters to refrain from non-essential travel due to risks of landslides, flash floods and road disruptions.
