The absence of chief executives from China's major corporations is notable given the scale of economic ties between the two countries and the significance of the visit. Such delegations have traditionally been used to signal commercial goodwill and to explore bilateral trade and investment opportunities on the sidelines of diplomatic engagements.
No explanation has been offered for the decision to leave business leaders behind on this occasion.
