US Air Force shuts down research centre focused on Chinese military capabilities
The China Aerospace Studies Institute, which analysed Beijing's air, space, cyber and missile programmes, is to close from October.
The United States Air Force is closing a prominent research centre dedicated to open-source analysis of China's military capabilities, including its air, space, cyber and missile programmes.
The China Aerospace Studies Institute announced on Tuesday that Air University, the Air Force institution under which it operates, had decided to shut it down, with all of its functions losing funding from October.
The closure removes one of the US military's key dedicated analytical bodies focused on monitoring and understanding the growth and modernisation of Chinese aerospace and defence capabilities at a time of heightened strategic competition between Washington and Beijing.
