Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti flag concerns over Election Commission functioning

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti have raised concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission of India, calling for corrective measures to address what they described as significant differences with the poll body.

Omar Abdullah said the Election Commission and the government ought to take the matter seriously, particularly in cases where eligible voters may have been prevented from casting their ballots. He stressed that any denial of franchise to legitimate voters was a matter that demanded urgent attention and institutional accountability.

The two leaders, who lead rival political formations in the region, found common ground in urging electoral authorities to examine their processes and ensure that every eligible citizen is able to exercise their democratic right without impediment.
