OpenAI and Anthropic chiefs urge global AI cooperation at United Nations
The heads of two of America's leading artificial intelligence companies called for international collaboration on AI governance at the UN.
The chief executives of OpenAI and Anthropic have made a joint appeal at the United Nations for coordinated international action on artificial intelligence, even as the Trump administration has signalled its opposition to what it characterises as a globalist effort to regulate the technology.
The intervention comes amid growing debate over how quickly AI should be developed and deployed. OpenAI's Sam Altman is among a number of prominent technology leaders who have argued that companies must moderate the pace of AI development to guard against potential risks as the technology becomes increasingly powerful.
The push for multilateral cooperation puts leading AI executives at odds with elements of the current US administration, which has expressed resistance to international frameworks governing the sector.
