US presses Ukraine and Russia to halt strikes on energy infrastructure
Washington calls for an end to attacks on power sites as Zelenskyy prepares to address the UN General Assembly.
The United States has called on both Ukraine and Russia to stop striking each other's energy infrastructure, as diplomatic pressure mounts to find a path toward ending the war that has now dragged on for more than four and a half years.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was due to address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, using the global stage to shape his country's position as renewed efforts toward a settlement gather pace.
US President Donald Trump has been pushing for an end to the conflict, and the call to protect energy sites represents one of the more concrete proposals to emerge from Washington in recent weeks as both sides continue exchanging blows across the front lines.
