The National Stock Exchange commenced trading on the BSE and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India on Thursday, marking a landmark moment for one of the country's most prominent financial institutions as it itself became a listed company.

The IPO, which closed earlier this month, was structured entirely as an offer for sale of 12.64 crore shares by existing shareholders, meaning the exchange raised Rs 22,562 crore without issuing any new equity. All proceeds went to the selling shareholders rather than to the company itself.

The listing drew considerable attention from retail and institutional investors alike, with market participants closely tracking grey-market signals ahead of the debut to gauge likely first-day price movement.
