Iran cancels flights as US tensions mount; Indian seafarer killed off Oman

Iran has cancelled flights as renewed American sanctions bite, while an Indian seafarer was killed in a strike off the coast of Oman, deepening fears of a wider regional conflict.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a defiant address at the United Nations, holding aloft an image of late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during his speech. The address signalled Tehran's intention to stand firm against mounting Western pressure.

President Donald Trump acknowledged that American and Iranian officials had held a meeting, though Iran's Foreign Ministry dismissed the talks as containing nothing new, suggesting little diplomatic progress has been made in efforts to reduce tensions between the two countries.
