Israel moves to disqualify both major Arab parties ahead of October election

Israel has moved to disqualify its two principal Arab political parties — Ra'am and the Joint List — from participating in the forthcoming October election, a step that would leave Palestinian citizens of Israel without meaningful representation in the Knesset.

The simultaneous targeting of both lists is unprecedented in its scope. Together, the two groupings have historically accounted for the overwhelming majority of Arab political participation in Israeli parliamentary life, making their potential exclusion a significant moment in the country's democratic landscape.
