Pre-filled Form-7 deletions targeting Muslim voters found in Belagavi
Booth-level officers allege they were pressured to sign bulk applications seeking removal of Muslim names from electoral rolls.
Pre-filled Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of Muslim voters from electoral rolls have surfaced in Belagavi, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of voter lists. Booth-level officers say the forms were brought to them in bulk by two men who claimed to represent the Belagavi City Corporation.
The BLOs allege they were pressured to put their signatures to the deletion requests, which exclusively targeted Muslim names. The circumstances under which the forms were prepared and the identities of those who commissioned them remain under scrutiny.
The incident has drawn political attention, with questions being raised about who may have directed such an organised effort to alter voter registration records along communal lines. Electoral authorities have yet to make a formal public statement on the matter.
Any unlawful attempt to delete legitimate voter registrations is an offence under election law, and demands are growing for an independent investigation into how the pre-filled forms were produced and circulated.
