Violence broke out at a Kerala University hostel on Tuesday evening when activists from the Youth Congress and the Students Federation of India clashed, hurling stones and beer bottles at each other. The incident began at around 7.30 pm during a Youth Congress march held in protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Both sides accused the other of throwing the first projectile, with each group denying responsibility for triggering the confrontation. Police responded by registering a non-bailable case in connection with the clashes.

The SFI announced State-wide protests across Kerala in the aftermath of the violence, deepening tensions between the two rival student organisations. The incident reflects the long-running antagonism between the Youth Congress, the student wing affiliated with the opposition, and the SFI, which is aligned with the ruling Left Democratic Front.
