Congress MLA quits Karnataka Assembly over drought-list snub for two taluks

A Congress legislator resigned from the Karnataka Assembly on Wednesday after the state government excluded two taluks in his constituency from its official list of drought-affected areas.

Yashvanta Rayagouda V Patil, who represents Vijayapura, submitted his resignation in protest at the omission of Indi and Chadchan taluks, arguing that the decision left the people of those areas without the relief they were entitled to.

Patil said he could no longer do justice to the voters who had elected him, citing the exclusion as the reason for his decision to step down.
