Valkyries sweep defending champion Aces to reach WNBA Finals in just second season
Golden State become the fastest expansion franchise to reach the WNBA Finals, beating Las Vegas 87-77 in overtime in Game 3.
The Golden State Valkyries made history on Friday night, sweeping the defending champion Las Vegas Aces 87-77 in overtime to advance to the WNBA Finals in only their second season as a franchise — the quickest any expansion team has reached the championship series.
The Valkyries' triumph sets up a Finals clash against the Atlanta Dream, who also completed a sweep on Friday, eliminating the New York Liberty 85-83 in Game 3. Atlanta are returning to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013.
Angel Reese led the Dream with 22 points in their series-clinching victory over the Liberty, though she struck a cautious note afterwards, saying the job was not yet done. The Dream will now face a Valkyries side that has stunned the league by dethroning the reigning champions at the earliest possible opportunity.
