CJP launches protests in Mumbai and Delhi as police impose restrictions at Jantar Mantar
The Cockroach Janta Party held demonstrations on October 2 demanding transparency in the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner.
The Cockroach Janta Party, led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, launched protests in Mumbai on October 2 while student unions backed a simultaneous demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, raising demands over the electoral appointment process.
Delhi Police imposed a Section 163 order around Jantar Mantar ahead of the rally, and security was tightened across the New Delhi district. Delhi Traffic Police issued a public advisory warning of restrictions and regulated movement around Jantar Mantar and surrounding roads.
Dipke has warned of nationwide protests if his demands are not met, calling for a transparent process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and for greater involvement of civil society in that process.
Ahead of the Jantar Mantar gathering, Delhi Metro shut eleven stations as a precautionary measure, adding to disruption for commuters across the capital on what is already a public holiday.
