Deportees bound and beaten at Equatorial Guinea hotel, lawyers allege

Two men deported by the Trump administration to Equatorial Guinea were bound, fitted with bags over their heads, beaten and pushed down a flight of stairs, according to witnesses and human rights lawyers. The abuse allegedly took place in full view of other deportees held at the same location.

The two men — one Egyptian national and one Eritrean — were among a group of deportees trapped at the Hotel Bamy after being removed from the United States. Rights groups have raised alarms over the conditions at the facility and the treatment of those held there.

Human rights organisations have called for urgent intervention, warning that deportees face violence and poor conditions at the site.
