Deportees beaten and hooded in Equatorial Guinea detention hotel, lawyers say

Two men deported by the Trump administration to Equatorial Guinea were bound, had bags placed over their heads, beaten and pushed down a flight of stairs inside a detention hotel, according to witnesses and human rights lawyers.

The men, one Egyptian and one Eritrean, were among a group of deportees held at the Hotel Bamy after being removed from the United States. The violence allegedly took place in full view of other deportees being held at the same facility.

Rights groups have raised alarm over conditions at the hotel, where those expelled from the US are reported to be trapped with little recourse.
