Election Commission dismisses split claims over Special Intensive Revision drive

The Election Commission of India has moved to quash suggestions of internal disagreement over its Special Intensive Revision process, asserting that all orders relating to the exercise were approved unanimously across the Commission.

The poll body confirmed that its SIR directives covered Bihar as well as several other states and union territories, with no dissent recorded among its members during the decision-making process. Officials were emphatic that claims of a split within the Commission did not reflect the facts.

Among the measures approved as part of the exercise, new voters applying to be added to electoral rolls will be required to submit a Declaration Form alongside the standard Form 6. The Commission said the combined submission was designed to reduce paperwork and make the registration process more convenient for citizens.

The clarification comes amid a broader public and political debate over the conduct and scope of the revision exercise, which has drawn scrutiny in recent weeks.
