High Court bars broadcast of videos and audios from Veeramani sexual abuse case

The Madras High Court has ordered that videos and audio recordings linked to the sexual abuse case against Chennai businessman R Veeramani must not be broadcast or publicly aired, as the investigation into the matter continues.

Veeramani, 84, founder of GEM Granites and the wider GEM Group of Companies, was arrested on 29 August. Two associates, Mahendra Simhan and Shanthi, were also taken into custody, accused of facilitating the alleged offences at a rented premises in the Teynampet area of Chennai.

The state government announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team comprising senior women IPS officers to lead the probe under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The case has drawn sharp political reactions, with actor-turned-politician Vijay publicly calling on former Chief Minister M K Stalin to speak out on the matter. Stalin responded, with the exchange adding to the pressure on authorities to ensure a transparent inquiry.
