Milei accuses UN of turning blind eye to Argentina's Falklands sovereignty claim

Argentine President Javier Milei has accused the United Nations of ignoring his country's long-standing claim to the Falkland Islands, saying the international body is effectively "looking the other way" on the sovereignty dispute.

The remarks mark a sharpening of Buenos Aires's position over the islands, which Argentina calls Las Malvinas, and come amid growing friction with the United Kingdom over offshore oil exploration in the surrounding waters.

The Falklands have been a source of tension between the two countries for decades, most acutely following the 1982 war. Britain has consistently maintained that the islanders' right to self-determination is not open to negotiation.
