Trump's UN speech riddled with false and misleading claims, fact-checkers find

Donald Trump's address to the United Nations General Assembly contained multiple claims that are false, misleading or difficult to substantiate, according to a close examination of the facts.

Trump asserted that the United States holds more munitions than it could ever need, a claim that sits at odds with widely reported concerns about depleting American weapons stockpiles. He also stated that the US and Venezuela together account for sixty per cent of the world's oil reserves, a figure that does not withstand scrutiny when set against established global energy data.

Perhaps most strikingly, Trump declared that he had ended the war in Gaza, despite Israeli military strikes and civilian casualties continuing well after last year's ceasefire agreement came into effect.
