LG and Samsung face Indian investigation over alleged tariff evasion on OLED TV parts

Indian authorities have launched investigations into LG and Samsung over suspected evasion of import tariffs on parts used in the manufacture of OLED televisions, adding both companies to a growing list of multinational corporations facing scrutiny over customs compliance in the country.

The investigations reflect a broader pattern of prolonged customs and tax disputes that have unsettled foreign investors in India. German automaker Volkswagen is among other major international companies previously caught up in similar proceedings.

Indian officials have maintained that such inquiries represent routine enforcement of existing trade law rather than any targeted campaign against overseas businesses, though critics argue the disputes create uncertainty for foreign firms considering investment in the country.
