Pakistan PM draws red line over Mecca as he condemns Houthi threats at UN General Assembly

Pakistan's prime minister drew a firm red line over the holy city of Mecca at the United Nations General Assembly's 81st session, condemning Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia's sacred sites and warning that such actions would not be tolerated.

Speaking at the high-level gathering, the Pakistani leader made clear that any threat to the Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia represented a line that could not be crossed. His remarks came as Pakistan stands as a signatory to the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, a pact that binds member states to the collective protection of Saudi Arabia.

The prime minister also used the platform to defend the joint defence arrangement involving Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, framing it as a legitimate mechanism for protecting Muslim lands and interests. The address signalled Islamabad's firm alignment with Riyadh at a moment of continued regional instability driven by Houthi military activity.
