Russia pounds Kyiv with drones as Zelenskyy heads to UN General Assembly

Russia launched a wave of drone strikes against Kyiv in broad daylight on Wednesday, killing two people and wounding 23 in one of the war's more brazen attacks on the Ukrainian capital. The assault came just hours before President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was due to address the United Nations General Assembly.

Zelenskyy had met US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, as Trump has made clear his frustration at the absence of meaningful progress towards a negotiated end to the conflict. The timing of the strikes, on the eve of Zelenskyy's major diplomatic appearance, underscored the acute difficulty of advancing peace efforts while fighting continues.
