Venezuela pledges fresh elections but Rodriguez offers no timetable at UN

Venezuela's Delcy Rodriguez used an address to the United Nations to declare that her government is committed to holding elections, but she stopped short of announcing when any vote would take place.
Rodriguez insisted Venezuela is in a process of democratic transition and said authorities have opened dialogue with opposition sectors in a bid to ease long-standing political tensions in the country.
The vague commitment is likely to draw scepticism from international observers who have repeatedly called on Caracas to set a firm electoral timetable and guarantee conditions for a free and fair contest.
