Fact-check: Helicopter video does not disprove plane strike on 9/11 south tower

A former British member of parliament has suggested that helicopter footage recorded on September 11, 2001 proves that no plane struck the World Trade Center's south tower — a claim that does not hold up to scrutiny.

The video in question was filmed from a helicopter on the morning of the attacks. Crucially, the camera angle captured only one face of the south tower. The aircraft that struck the building hit the opposite side, which remained entirely out of frame throughout the footage.

The absence of a visible impact in the video is therefore explained by the camera's position, not by any absence of an attack. The claim misrepresents what the footage actually shows.
