Delhi HC orders removal of deepfake images linking woman to PM Modi
Court gave Meta 24 hours to take down morphed photographs and directed Delhi Police to provide the woman with full protection.
The Delhi High Court has ordered the immediate removal of artificially generated photographs falsely depicting a woman alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the images were circulated in connection with a protest by the Cockroach Janta Party.
The court directed social media company Meta to take down all objectionable images and related links from its platforms within 24 hours. Notices were also issued to Delhi Police and leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party over the morphed content.
The court further ordered Delhi Police to extend full protection to the woman, who has reportedly received threats following the circulation of the fabricated images. The matter came before the court following an urgent plea filed on her behalf.
The case highlights growing legal and public concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create deepfake content targeting private individuals, and the potential harm such material can cause when shared widely on social media platforms.
