Police probe whether Kalkaji park was hunting ground for gang-rape suspects

Delhi police are investigating whether Aastha Kunj park in Kalkaji was a regular target location for three men accused of raping a 17-year-old girl during what should have been a birthday outing. Detectives are examining whether the suspects had previously used the park to identify and assault victims.

The teenager had visited the nearby Kalkaji Temple with a male companion before the two sat down in the park. Three men, armed with knives and posing as police officers, then approached them. They threatened her companion before dragging the girl to a darker part of the park, where she was assaulted.

After the attack the men warned her not to report the crime to anyone. Her companion nonetheless contacted police shortly afterwards. The survivor later described her ordeal in detail, identifying the assailants by their nicknames and physical characteristics, providing investigators with leads they are now actively pursuing.
