Jaishankar urges urgent UNSC reform as global conflicts expose body's limitations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has called for urgent reform of the United Nations Security Council, arguing that the body's repeated inability to address ongoing conflicts around the world has made the need for change increasingly apparent.

Jaishankar made the remarks while co-chairing the L.69 Consultative Ministerial Interaction on UNSC reform, a gathering of nations that have long pushed for a more representative and effective Security Council.

The L.69 group, which comprises developing nations from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, has been among the most vocal coalitions demanding an overhaul of a body whose permanent membership structure has remained unchanged since 1945.
