Ladakh marks anniversary of Sep 24 violence as L-G drops cases against 20 locals

Civil society bodies in Ladakh took to the streets on the first anniversary of the September 24 violence, which erupted during demonstrations demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule for the region.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk led a symbolic padyatra in Leh to mark the occasion, keeping public attention on the longstanding political grievances of the people of Ladakh.

In a significant gesture ahead of the anniversary, the Ladakh Lieutenant Governor withdrew cases that had been registered against 20 local residents in connection with the unrest, a move seen as an effort to ease tensions in the region.
