Bihar BJP MLA turns on own government over ₹10,000 crore JEEVIKA payout

A Bihar legislator from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has broken ranks to criticise his own government's decision to distribute ₹10,000 crore among JEEVIKA didis, the women enrolled in the state's flagship self-help group programme.

The MLA questioned how meaningful development could be achieved by placing a heavy debt burden on beneficiaries. He warned that loading women with such financial obligations would ultimately prove counterproductive to the state's broader welfare ambitions.

He also raised concerns about the longer-term fiscal consequences, arguing that the move would create serious difficulties in mobilising resources for government schemes in the years ahead. The rare public dissent from within the ruling alliance is likely to place the administration under fresh scrutiny over its spending priorities.
