Angel Reese scores 23 as Dream hold off Liberty in overtime for 2-0 series lead
Atlanta Dream defeat New York Liberty 101-98 in overtime to move within one win of the WNBA Finals.
Angel Reese delivered a commanding performance of 23 points as the Atlanta Dream defeated the New York Liberty 101-98 in overtime on Wednesday night, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in their WNBA semifinal series.
The decisive moment came with 20.8 seconds remaining in the extra period, when Naz Hillmon converted a go-ahead layup to give Atlanta the cushion they needed to see out the contest and send the Liberty to the brink of elimination.
Reese's scoring display proved the backbone of the Dream's effort throughout a tightly contested game that neither side could settle inside regulation. The Liberty, despite their efforts to force overtime and keep their campaign alive, ultimately could not find a response to Hillmon's late intervention.
Atlanta now hold a 2-0 series advantage and require just one more victory to advance to the WNBA Finals. The Liberty face an enormous challenge to overturn the deficit, with the pressure of the series now squarely on their shoulders heading into the next game.
