Jammu and Kashmir marks Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday with official holiday and special functions

Jammu and Kashmir observed a public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the Dogra ruler whose decision to accede to India in 1947 shaped the region's modern history. Special functions were held to mark the occasion, with the BJP organising dedicated events across the territory.

Addressing one of the gatherings, Darakshan Andrabi paid tribute to the Maharaja's historic choice. "Maharaja Hari Singh took the wise decision in 1947 by acceding to India. How much have we benefited from that decision. Today we are with India, our country," she said, underscoring the significance of the accession for the region's people.
