IDSFFK 2026: Filmmaker Ameya Gore on pushing the boundaries of sports documentary
Gore's film Going Solo tracks two women cyclists on their gruelling journey to the London-Edinburgh-London event in 2022.
Filmmaker Ameya Gore has spoken about his documentary Going Solo at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, describing the project as an attempt to expand what sports filmmaking can achieve.
The documentary, produced by Sharib Khan and Vikas Kumar, follows women cyclists Gareema Shankar and Renu Singhi as they prepare for and compete in the London-Edinburgh-London cycling event in 2022, one of the most demanding long-distance cycling challenges in the world.
Gore indicated that the film seeks to move beyond conventional sports documentary formats, using the two cyclists' experiences to explore broader themes of endurance, ambition and identity. The women's journey to a prestigious international event provided the filmmakers with a narrative that was both intimate and physically epic in scale.
