Punjab LGBTQ influencer Mad Sandhu shot dead in Amritsar
A fashion stylist and digital creator who championed LGBTQ visibility was killed by two gunmen on a motorcycle at the weekend.
Mad Sandhu, a prominent LGBTQ activist and social media influencer known for his work as a fashion stylist and makeup artist, was shot dead by two men riding a motorcycle in Amritsar on Saturday. His killing has sent shockwaves through Punjab's LGBTQ community and beyond.
Sandhu had built a substantial online following by documenting his life and work as a digital creator, drawing both admiration and hostility. When faced with online trolls who targeted him for his identity and lifestyle, he responded with quiet defiance. "God made me this way," he told his critics — a phrase that resonated widely among his supporters.
His murder has triggered a political storm in Punjab, with opposition parties training their fire on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's AAP government, demanding accountability and swift action against the perpetrators. Authorities have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the killing.
