Four security personnel arrested over alleged gang rape of woman in Uttar Pradesh

Four security personnel — two police officers and two Central Reserve Police Force jawans — have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh on charges of allegedly gang-raping a woman, authorities confirmed.

According to investigators, on the evening of 22 September the accused men drove the woman to Hasanpur in a car, picking up Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar along the way before the alleged assault took place.

The arrests have triggered serious concern over the conduct of uniformed personnel in the state. Authorities have indicated that a formal investigation is under way and that action will be taken in accordance with the law.
